During that godforsaken\, musically atrocious decade\, it was them and us. We hadn’t got a prayer. Our stuff didn’t register in corporate demographic terms\, it was too vague and indefinable. And it didn’t register in the charts. There would be the occasional triumph\, as the The Smiths\, the Bunnymen or the Mary Chain made a lightning raid on the Top 20\, only to limp back to obscurity the following week.\nSo\, come the tail end of 1989\, there was a mood of battered\, hopeless optimism. As we took our huddled flight into the Nineties\, a bolt from nowhere\, from Oxford\, overturned the inherent pessimism in that optimism and gave us something to believe in. Ride had tunes\, noise\, looks\, style\, confidence\, everything. And they had youth: their two guitar-playing singers Mark Gardener and Andy Bell were both just 19\, as was drummer Laurence ‘Loz’ Colbert. Stephen Queralt\, the bassist\, was an oldster at 21. They’d come together on a foundation course at North Oxford Art College and had been playing around the Thames Valley area for less than a year. Already\, though\, they looked and sounded supreme\, like they’d been born with their guitars strapped on and had been jamming together ever since. Justifiably mistrusting the A&R scramble that ensued\, they instead signed up where they felt they belonged\, Alan McGee’s Creation Records.\nThe cover of the ‘Ride EP’\, released in January 1990\, showed a bed of roses. The symbolism there\, and in the first words on the first track was lost on nobody. A new decade was rung in with a possibility that guitars gone into overload might become pop music – as in actually popular\, in the charts and stuff. ‘Take me for a ride away from places we have known\,’ Mark crooned on ‘Chelsea Girl’… implicit in the song’s delirious melody was a reaching for new heights\, a belief in better things to come. It went to Number 71. In those days\, for an independently released debut\, with next to no radio airplay\, this was a result. Creation had never slipped inside the Top 75 before. There hadn’t been such a buzz about a UK group in aeons. Ride were hungry to perform\, and when they did\, they blew everyone away.\nIt all kind of centred on Loz. He was a hurricane behind the drums\, you’d just see this blur of sticks and hair. Stage right was Steve\, staring intently downwards\, snapping the groove tightly down. Off to the left was Andy\, in his own world. And right up front you had Mark\, thrashing wildly at the six strings\, but cooing like an angel into the mic\, the Ride duality in one body.\nBy April\, they’d charged up enough audiences for there to be real anticipation for their next record – the ‘Play EP’ – and on that buzz alone\, it went in at – unthinkable! – Number 32. Bands just didn’t happen that quick. Even the Roses and the Mondays and the Scream\, who’d all been going for years\, had only just started to hit. ‘It took Primal Scream six years to become a genius band\,’ gushed McGee at the time. ‘Ride have managed it in six months.’ Eager anticipation now shifted onto Ride’s debut album.\nPreceding it by a month came the ‘Fall EP’\, the band’s third\, with a foreboding atmosphere about it that those hooked on the noise/pop pleasures of ‘Chelsea Girl’ and ‘Like A Daydream’ might not have foreseen. After the Smithsian daffodils last time out\, the sleeve showed penguins freezing to buggery in the snow. The four tracks were headed up by their darkest composition so far\, ‘Dreams Burn Down’. For all the uncompromised storm clouds\, ‘Fall’ near as goddammit matched the success of ‘Play’ at Number 34.\nWhen ‘Nowhere’ dropped in October ’90\, it not only became Creation’s first ever Top 75 album\, but shot in at Number 11\, to blanket critical appreciation. It was angst\, but it was ecstatic\, as witnessed by Bell’s awesome closing track\, ‘Vapour Trail’\, its brooding bassline/cello finale leading up and away into infinity. A fitting climax to the finest debut album of 1990. The rest of the world was listening.\nIn Japan\, Australia and America\, the ‘Smile’ mini-album was released\, compiling the eight killer tracks from those first two EPs. Press excitement exploded around the globe. The band did an extensive European tour in the Winter of ’90\, followed by a debut trip to Japan. They landed at Osaka airport to be greeted by 200 girls all clutching bunches of daffodils (how did they do that – in December?!).\nRide were pop stars. Where so many of their contemporaries had failed to stretch their fame beyond the British coastline\, Ride were truly a global success. The 4000 tickets for the Japanese tour sold out in 12 minutes\, and ‘Nowhere’ went Top 10 there. ‘Vapour Trail’ from the album was also a huge US radio hit. As people\, the band’s time wasn’t their own anymore.\nIn March ’91\, Ride Mark 1 released the ‘Today Forever EP’\, with a killer shark’s jaws warning off competitors from the sleeve and the mesmerizing lead tune\, ‘Unfamiliar’\, doing much the same in music. It leapt into the singles chart at No 14\, a career best\, but already they were planning Ride Mark 2\, to leave their peers for dust. ‘All that stuff just means we do something different next time\,’ Queralt informed Select magazine’s David Cavanagh at the time. ‘We’re now very aware of what we don’t want to sound like.’\nIn 15 months\, Ride had released two albums’ worth of material. For the rest of ’91\, they played live all over the world. They toured the US for the first time\, nipped down to Australia and back up for a second visit to Japan. Headlining the one-off Slough Festival in July\, they aired some of their work-in-progress.\nWithdrawing to rural Chipping Norton with Alan Moulder at the production controls\, they recorded some 25 tracks\, from which the ten great ones formed ‘Going Blank Again’. It was an astonishing LP that bore no trace of ‘difficult second album’ syndrome\, soaring off boldly beyond anything that they\, or any of their piddling peers\, had achieved thus far. Its title sarcastically swiped at critics who alleged that Ride were vacant\, had nothing to say. And ‘Leave Them All Behind’\, which trailered it in February ’92\, was as eloquent a mission statement as you could’ve wished for.\nWithout giving any ground (hell\, by stealing more!)\, ‘Leave Them All Behind’ went in at 9 (Creation’s first ever Top 10 hit). In March\, the LP went further\, racing in at 5.\nThese were glory days for Ride. They’d very effectively legged it clear of the pack that had formed around them\, and scaled the industry ladder to the point where\, following an exhaustive and exhausting world tour – their second in as many years\, they would play one slot below Loz’s all-time heroes Public Enemy at Reading ’92. If you’re holding the full-tilt box-set version of this ‘Best Of’\, you can hear for yourself just how mind-meltingly brilliant they were live around this time.\nThe four of them spent much of that year getting fired up. They ventured out for the occasional live show including the spectacular Daytripper weekend\, where they co-headlined the Brighton Centre and the Blackpool Empress Ballroom with The Charlatans – Ride closing the show down South with the bill flipped on The Golden Mile. And once their songs were close to ready\, they went back to Oxford with producer George Drakoulias (Black Crowes\, Jayhawks)\, to hone and re-arrange the next ‘difficult’ album\, their third.\nPre-production over\, George had to leave to take the helm of Primal Scream’s ‘Give Out But Don’t Give Up’\, but there was a producer lined up – John Leckie\, who could reel off a litany of classics he’d worked on\, from John Lennon’s ‘Plastic Ono Band’ and ‘Meddle’ by Pink Floyd\, right through to ‘The Stone Roses’. Initially bound tight as an insular band/gang\, Ride’s gates had blown open and the world around them came flooding in. It was like swapping black/white for Technicolor\, everyday life for hyperreality\, With its opening minute of chirruping / chattering\, this was not the stuff of radio dreams. Having been AWOL during the first tremors of Britpop (Suede/Auteurs\, and in January\, ‘Supersonic’ by Oasis)\, Ride came back as a ball of confusion. The single stalled at 38\, but it set the stage for the main feature\, ‘Carnival Of Light’\, unleashed in June.\nThe fish-eye sleeve shot of the band spoke volumes to fans of lysergic history. The grungy cover of ‘How Does It Feel To Feel?’ by The Creation (the ’60s garage-psych band who’d given McGee’s label its name) harked back to familiar sounds\, but for the rest\, Ride strode boldly forward from behind their habitual wall of feedback and\, as they’d promised before\, just let it flow.\nAt Christmas\, the band played as un-billed support to Oasis at their biggest gig to date\, the 5\,000-capacity Brighton Centre. Without realising at the time\, this was to be the band’s last UK show\, the only dates that followed in 1995 were a fourth tour of Japan and one festival in Spain. However one Noel Gallagher watched the whole Ride set from the mixing desk at the back of the hall\, commenting at the end ‘It’s just as well we’re fucking good’.\nWith wives\, babies and new homes they’d barely had time to decorate yet\, the four now had lives of their own. They’d been at this for five years\, and while they’d all grown up together\, they’d developed their own domestic agendas away from the gang ethos.\nIt must’ve been a bastard to know what to do next. They each had their own ideas. It’s a miracle that they came up with anything at all\, but what they recorded through 1995 was ‘Tarantula’\, another quantum leap forward. However\, by the time it was released in March ’96 the band had announced that they had effectively split up. To hear what a high Ride flew out on\, how far they’d travelled since ‘Chelsea Girl\, ‘Leave Them All Behind’\, even ‘Birdman’\, just cue up ‘Black Night Crash’: a blast of bad-ass blues\, based on the car-smash voyeurism of JG Ballard’s ‘Crash’. Despite the lack of gigs\, the album still charted at 21.\n2001 saw the release of the re-mastered catalogue albums from the original analogue tapes\, “OX4 – The Best Of Ride”; a timely reminder of just how brilliant\, how different\, how influential\, and how fundamental they were to what has since followed. Alongside this was a 3xCD box set\, featuring “OX4″ alongside an album of previously unreleased material\, “Firing Blanks”\, and a live album of their Reading Festival show in August 92.\nA series of live shows in 2015 across the UK\, Europe and US have now been announced\, marking 20 years since the band’s last concerts. \nFroth \n \n[Website] [Facebook] [Twitter] \nJooJoo Ashworth- Guitar/VOX\nJeremy Katz- Bass\nCameron Allen- Drums\nNick Ventura- Guitar

SUMMARY:[CANCELED] Preservation Hall Jazz Band
DESCRIPTION:This show has been canceled. Refunds available at the point of purchase. \n*** \nPreservation Hall Jazz Band \n \n[Website] [Facebook] [Twitter] \nAt a moment when musical streams are crossing with unprecedented frequency\, it’s crucial to remember that throughout its history\, New Orleans has been the point at which sounds and cultures from around the world converge\, mingle\, and resurface\, transformed by the Crescent City’s inimitable spirit and joie de vivre. Nowhere is that idea more vividly embodied than in the Preservation Hall Jazz Band\, which has held the torch of New Orleans music aloft for more than 50 years\, all the while carrying it enthusiastically forward as a reminder that the history they were founded to preserve is a vibrantly living history. \nPHJB marches that tradition forward once again on So It Is\, the septet’s second release featuring all-new original music. The album redefines what New Orleans music means in 2017 by tapping into a sonic continuum that stretches back to the city’s Afro-Cuban roots\, through its common ancestry with the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the Fire Music of Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane\, and forward to cutting-edge artists with whom the PHJB have shared festival stages from Coachella to Newport\, including legends like Stevie Wonder\, Elvis Costello and the Grateful Dead and modern giants like My Morning Jacket\, Arcade Fire and the Black Keys. \nSo It Is finds the classic PHJB sound invigorated by a number of fresh influences\, not least among them the band’s 2015 life-changing trip to Cuba. A visit to the island\, so integral to the evolution of jazz and New Orleans culture in general\, had long been in the works when President Obama’s diplomatic opening suddenly allowed for a more extensive journey than had originally seemed possible. \n“When the restrictions were lifted\,” says bandleader/composer/bassist Ben Jaffe\, “It was no longer just about going down there and playing a concert. We were able to explore a bit more\, which profoundly impacted the band not just musically but personally. In Cuba\, all of a sudden we were face to face with our musical counterparts. There’s been a connection between Cuba and New Orleans since day one – we’re family. A gigantic light bulb went off and we realized that New Orleans music is not just a thing by itself; it’s part of something much bigger. It was almost like having a religious epiphany.” \nProducer David Sitek\, a founder of art rock innovators TV on the Radio who has helmed projects by Kelis\, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Santigold among others\, offered both a keen modern perspective and a profound respect for the band’s storied history. Upon arriving in New Orleans to meet with the band\, Sitek recalls he and Jaffe accidentally stumbling into one of the city’s famed second-line parades. “I was struck by the visceral energy of the live music all around\, this spontaneous joy\, everything so immediate\,” he says. “I knew I had to make sure that feeling came out of the studio. It needed to be alive. It needed to sound dangerous.” \nFor those wary that a band with the rich history of the PHJB is tackling new material\, Jaffe is quick to point out that Preservation Hall – which his parents\, Allan and Sandra Jaffe\, founded in 1961 – was never meant to be a museum. At its beginnings it broke racial boundaries to present the living legends of New Orleans music\, living links to the origins of jazz. Today\, with a band whose ages range nearly 60 years\, the mission remains the same: to pass on the traditions while continually revitalizing it with new blood and fresh ideas. \n“I see it as something that’s necessary for the evolution and survival of New Orleans music\,” Jaffe says. “Interpreting the repertoire that’s been around for a hundred years is one thing\, but the challenge is to keep that repertoire and those traditions alive while at the same time being honest about who you are as a musician\, allowing all of your musical influences to be reflected in what you create.” \nWhile that’s always been a key component of the PHJB\, whether at their world-famous French Quarter home or on stages around the world\, it took on a renewed urgency in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. “When something that catastrophic happens in your life\,” Jaffe says\, “it becomes important to understand and focus on the things that are most important.” The band began charting a new path with the release of That’s It!\, their first album of original material\, in 2013. So It Is continues and significantly expands on that expedition. \nThe music on So It Is\, penned largely by Jaffe and 84 year-old saxophonist Charlie Gabriel in collaboration with the entire PHJB\, stirs together that variety of influences like classic New Orleans cuisine. Longtime members Jaffe\, Gabriel\, Clint Maedgen and Ronell Johnson have been joined over the past18 months by Walter Harris\, Branden Lewis and Kyle Roussel\, and the new blood has hastened the journey into new musical territory. The album’s seven new pieces of buoyant\, window-rattling funk find common ancestry with the Afro-Cuban sounds that the band heard in the streets of Havana (witness the NOLA-meets-Cuba bounce of “La Malanga”)\, Fela Kuti’s Nigerian funk and the entrancing melodies of Ethiopian jazz (most evident on the sinuous “Innocence”)\, the passion of envelope-pushing ‘60s jazz and soul pioneers\, and the intense grooves of their modern Coachella counterparts – then filters them all through a Crescent City lens to emerge with something that compels the listener to move. \n“When we play music\, the barometer for us as a band is whether the locals are reacting\,” Jaffe explains. “In New Orleans we play music for dances and parades\, funerals and church. It’s important to us to make music people connect to\, that people dance to\, that people really feel\, emotionally and physically.  That’s the tradition we grew up with\, that’s what we know.” \nPreservation Hall Jazz Band: \nBEN JAFFE – Bass (upright)\, Tuba\, Percussion\nCHARLIE GABRIEL – Saxophone (tenor)\, Clarinet\nCLINT MAEDGEN – Saxophone (tenor)\, Percussion\nRONELL JOHNSON – Trombone\nWALTER HARRIS – Drums\, Percussion\nKYLE ROUSSEL – Piano\, Wurlitzer\, Organ\nBRANDEN LEWIS – Trumpet

No service charge on tickets purchased in person at The Sinclair Box Office Wednesdays-Saturdays 12-7PM. \n*** \n \n*** \nLittle Dragon \n \n[Website] [Facebook] [Twitter] \nGrammy-nominated Little Dragon have announced their long-awaited new album Season High\, out now digitally on Loma Vista Records (CD + LP in stores May 5th). This is the first new music from the electro-pop band since they released their acclaimed 2014 album\, Nabuma Rubberband. Season High was produced by Little Dragon\, with co-production and mixing by James Ford\, in their hometown of Gothenburg\, Sweden. \nDiscussing the process behind recording Season High\, Yukimi muses\, “We have grown through the years but the making of this album has been a struggle. As much as our band is based on a deep friendship we are four strong wills who find it really frustrating to compromise. We have gotten better at that though\, but it’s still a real battle. It gets harder and harder for us to make records but we still love it. Sometimes it feels like we have 100% passion and life or death emotions yet there’s a pointlessness with everything. We want to exist in our own bubble where we can stay curious about sounds. The magic feeling that sounds can sprinkle over any boring day is what got us all hooked. That feeling of escapism …maybe because Gothenburg is a grey place for most of the year\, our curse and blessing is that we never quite succeed.” \n*** \n Xavier Omär \n \n[Website] [Facebook] [Twitter] \nHow does Xavier Omär want to be remembered? As a risk taker. A classic voice. An artist who blurs musical lines. A fearless dreamer. And with these big goals\, the singer-songwriter isn’t wasting any time. His debut studio album\, Bonfire\, released on 09/02/14 followed by his EP with Sango (Soulection) titled Hours Spent Loving You\, and singles Blind Man & Hesitate. \nXavier Omär takes pride in his songwriting ability and is most excited by the reward of evoking specific feelings in his listeners with his music. He draws inspiration from artists of all genres\, including James Blake\, Arcade Fire\, Kanye West\, Mumford & Sons\, John Legend\, Frank Ocean\, The Beatles\, and Sam Smith. \nXavier Omär grew up as a military brat\, moving across the country and as far as Japan\, but he claims Georgia as home. Music balanced out the highly structured lifestyle of his military family\, as his mother and siblings sang and played drums and piano\, and his father was a writer\, producer and the minister of music at church. He wrote and produced his first song at 12 years old\, recording it in his basement on a 4 track tape recorder. A brief period of discouragement was tackled when Xavier Omär decided to audition for American Idol Season 11 in Houston\, TX. Not making it past the preliminary judging round gave him the determination to save up to buy equipment and begin recording music again—so add “proving American Idol wrong” to his list of goals. In 2012\, he hit the ground running with his solo career and hasn’t stopped since.

SUMMARY:Highly Suspect
DESCRIPTION:Bowery Boston presents \nDoors: 6:00 pm / Show: 7:00 pm \nThis event is 18+. Patrons under 18 permitted if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\nTickets on sale Fri. 5/5 at 10AM! \nTickets available at AXS.COM\, or by phone at 855-482-2090. No service charge on tickets purchased in person at The Sinclair Box Office Wednesdays-Saturdays 12-7PM. Please note: box office is cash only. \n*** \n \n*** \nHighly Suspect \n \n[Website] [Facebook] [Twitter] \nFestival-storming trio Highly Suspect returned with second album The Boy Who Died Wolf on November 18th\, 2016. The moving\, jubilant LP from the Brooklyn alt-renegades follows two Top 10 Mainstream Rock hits (“Lydia\,” “Bloodfeather”) and two Grammy nominations (Best Rock Song\, Best Rock Album) just one year from the release of their 300 Entertainment debut\, 2015’s Mister Asylum. For the follow-up\, the band —  Johnny Stevens (guitar/vocals)\, and fraternal twin brother rhythm section Rich (bass/vocals) and Ryan Meyer (drums/vocals) — are reappearing stronger\, livelier and more mature. The effort earned the boys a third Grammy nominated for “My Name Is Human” (Best Rock Song.) \n“The title The Boy Who Died Wolf\, it’s like\, we were so young and now we’re adults\,” says Stevens. “I went through a lot of issues that I had to sort out and sometimes I can’t believe that I’m alive. And now here I am traveling the world with my best friends\, making music\, and living the exact dream that we had set out to accomplish a long time ago … We’re learning a different lifestyle. And it’s good\, it’s positive. But it’s also hard to let go of everything that happened in the past.” \nThat new lifestyle comes in the wake of success that’s snowballed since 2014\, featuring Grammy nods; radio smashes; stops at major festivals (Lollapalooza\, Bonnaroo\, Reading and Leeds and so on); tours alongside Scott Weiland\, Chevelle  and Catfish & the Bottlemen to name a few; tours around the world including Australia\, New Zealand\, Europe and the UK as well as multiple headlining tours in the United States one of which is currently underway. The feeling of celebration infuses The Boy Who Died Wolf\, while still heading into haunted regions of Steven’s past\, yowling somewhere between the metronomic robot metal of Queens of the Stone Age\, the bluesy wallop of Jack White and the feedback-shrieking noise-pop of In Utero-era Nirvana. \nTo record the LP\, the band traveled far from their New York comfort zone to Bogotá\, Colombia\, recording with Mister Asylum producer Joel Hamilton (The Black Keys and Wu-tang\, Tom Waits\, Elvis Costello\,). \n“Normally we would record in New York or L.A.\, and when we’re in those places we just have too many distractions\, too many friends\,” says Stevens. “When you’re trying to make art.. pure art\, it’s good to be secluded. So we were literally in a fortress\, 20-foot walls all around this compound in the middle of Bogota.” \n“The energy around you\, the culture that you’re taking in\, will affect the songs\,” he continues. “We were really enjoying ourselves. So I think there’s a little more step to this album. There’s happier tones. There’s some dark stuff too but there are simply more uplifting moments on this album.  I think we finally realized we are supposed to be here making music. That people like what we do. We had more trust in ourselves and each other and just let the music come out. \nThe upbeat vibe begins to show its face lyrically in the lead single “My Name Is Human” (“I’m feeling the way that I’m feeling myself”)\, and then appears full force on the blazing desert-rock dynamite of “Postres” (“I’m havin’ fun for the rest of my days”)\, but takes a back seat in their dreamy cover of Real Life’s 1983 new wave swooner “Send Me an Angel” and on the anthemic “Little One” which reminds us all of the hopeless\, lovelorn pangs that most have undoubtedly felt in the pit of their guts somewhere along the lines. But even the more serious songs are steeped in an unrelenting optimism. A great friend of theirs took his own life while the band were in Colombia\, to which they responded with “For Billy\,” a beaming post-grunge burst. \n“The song is not a downer\, it’s sad\, but it’s a charged up anthem\,” explains Stevens. “It’s what he would have wanted. It was a really sad moment but he was such a happy person. So that song is something he can blare through his Harley speakers wherever he is now .” \nJohnny describes Billy as an “original crewmember” of MCID\, the collective shouted out on Highly Suspect’s jackets\, hats\, lyrics and tattoos. “That’s our ethos\,” says Johnny of the acronym that stands for “My Crew Is Dope.” “We’re trying to invite any and all positive people to what was once exclusively for us. We’ve realized its bigger than us; as long as you’re not a racist\, not a homophobe and you have good intentions then we welcome you to join the family and spread the love.” In turn\, Wolf’s “Viper Strike” namechecks MCID in a venomous\, knives-out attack on bigots: “We’re all equal except for you/’Cause you’re an asshole with an ugly point of view” \n“It’s a family of positivity that we’re really trying to build\,” says Johnny. “Our whole purpose is not just about being some famous fuckin’ band\, but kind of making a movement. Making a difference for our generation who are so constantly misled. We barely made it out of the wrong mentality. We want to help. We’re no fuckin hippies\, those days are gone. The irony is that now you have to “fight” for positivity. Which is crazy but so be it. We’re strapped and ready to defend free thinking. When you come to our shows\, it’s kind of like this family affair.” \n*** \n And The Kids \n \n[Website] [Facebook] [Twitter] \nGrowing up\, often the safest haven to plot your dreams and get a handle on your identity is within the confines of trusted friendships. For the musicians in the critically acclaimed band And The Kids\, these bonds have been a life raft. \nBut as friendships evolve from adolescence to young adulthood\, sometimes the lines between friends\, lovers and all that comes in between can grow murky. On the Northampton\, MA-based band’s latest\, Friends Share Lovers (out June 3rd on Signature Sounds)\, And The Kids examines blurred boundaries in close-knit relationships. \n“The friends we grew up with were troublemakers\, lost souls\, dropouts\, and mother figures\,” says And The Kids guitarist and vocalist Hannah Mohan. “The title references the incestuousness of friend groups and how things get messy.” \nAnd The Kids channel existential crises into pop euphoria. With this sleight of hand\, the quartet manages to conjure chunky indie rock\, blissful new wave\, chamber folk\, jarring avant-garde\, and brawny classic rock. Mohan navigates this expansive creativity with aplomb. Effortlessly she swoops heavenly for high tones\, digs deep for swaggering rock n’ roll low tones\, and manages to mash up sweet sass with new wave bliss for a vocal feel that masks sage wisdom beneath sweet innocence. In addition to Mohan\, And The Kids is Rebecca Lasaponaro on drums\, Megan Miller on synthesizers and percussion\, and bassist Taliana Katz. \nThe quartet’s beginnings couldn’t be better scripted: Mohan and Lasaponaro met in band class in seventh grade. A few years later\, the duo dropped out of school and found themselves at a learning center that provided them with a free rehearsal space. There they practiced everyday\, inspired by such diverse artists as Modest Mouse\, Rilo Kiley\, The Doors\, and The Police\, among others.

Her most autobiographical and honest album to date\, Out in the Storm is a self-reflective anchor in the story of both her songwriting and her life. As Crutchfield prepared for the release of her Merge debut Ivy Tripp\, she found herself depleted emotionally and professionally amidst the dissolution of a noxious relationship. “Ivy Tripp doesn’t really have any resolution. It’s a lot of beating around the bush\, and superficially trying to see my life clearly\, but just barely scratching the surface. Out in the Storm digs into what I was going through without blinking. It’s a very honest record about a time in which I was not honest with myself.”\nThe album was tracked at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia with John Agnello\, a producer\, recording engineer\, and mixer known for working with some of the most iconic musicians of the last 25 years\, including Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. Agnello and Crutchfield worked together for most of December 2016\, along with the band: sister Allison Crutchfield on keyboards and percussion\, Katherine Simonetti on bass\, and Ashley Arnwine on drums; Katie Harkin\, touring guitarist with Sleater-Kinney\, also contributed lead guitar. At Agnello’s suggestion\, the group recorded most of the music live to enhance their unity in a way that gives the album a fuller sound compared to past releases\, resulting in one of Waxahatchee’s most guitar-driven releases to date. \n***\nPalehound \n \n[Website] [Facebook] [Twitter] \nThe sophomore album from the Boston trio Palehound\, A Place I’ll Always Go\, is a frank look at love and loss\, cushioned by indelible hooks and gently propulsive\, fuzzed-out rock. \nEllen Kempner\, Palehound’s vocalist\, guitarist\, and songwriter explains\, “A lot of it is about loss and learning how to let yourself evolve past the pain and the weird guilt that comes along with grief.” \nKempner’s writing comes from upheavals she experienced in 2015 and 2016 that reframed her worldview. “I lost two people I was really close with\,” she recalls. “I lost my friend Lily. I lost my grandmother too\, but you expect that at 22. When you lose a friend — a young friend — nothing can prepare you for that. A lot of the record is about going on with your life\, while knowing that person is missing what’s happening — they loved music and they’re missing these great records that come out\, and they’re missing these shows that they would’ve wanted to go to. It just threw me for a loop to know that life is so fragile.” \nPalehound’s first release for Polyvinyl is also about the light that gradually dawns after tragedy\, with songs like the bass-heavy “Room” and the gentle dreamy album closer “At Night I’m Alright With You” feeling their way through blossoming love. “The album is also about learning how to find love\, honestly\, after loss\,” says Kempner. \nSince forming in 2014\, Palehound — Kempner\, drummer Jesse Weiss (Spook The Herd)\, and new bassist Larz Brogan (a veteran of Boston DIY who\, Kempner posits\, “had 13 local bands last year”) — have taken their plainspoken\, technique-heavy indie rock from the basements of Boston to festivals around the world. A Place I’ll Always Go was recorded in late 2016 at the Brooklyn complex Thump Studios with the assistance of Gabe Wax\, who recorded Dry Food. “I would put my life in his hands\,” Kempner asserts. “I trust him so much.” \nA Place I’ll Always Go builds on the promise of Palehound’s critically acclaimed 2015 album Dry Food with songs that are slightly more reserved\, but no less powerful. “Flowing Over” rides a sweetly hooky guitar line\, with Kempner using the fuzzed-out upper register of her voice as a sort of anxious counterpoint to the riff’s infectious melody. “That song is about anxiety\,” says Kempner\, “and when you’re sad and you listen to sad music to feed it and feel yourself spinning all these ‘what if’s and ‘I’m terrible’s in your head.” \n“This record represents a period of time in my life way more than anything I’ve ever written before\,” says Kempner\, who notes that the swirling “If You Met Her” and the piano-tinged “At Night I’m Alright With You” could represent the opposing poles of the record. “One of them is about love\, and the other one is about death — it was a really healthy experience for me to find my own dialogue within that\,” she says. “There’s so much that you learn and read\, and other people’s experiences that you internalize\, that you try to then base your own on. It was helpful to carve my own path for that.” \nPart of what makes A Place I’ll Always Go so striking is the way it channels feelings of anxiety — heart-racing moments both exhilarating and crushing — into songs that feel well-worn and comforting. The hushed confessionalism of “Carnations” and the fugue state described in the stripped-down “Feeling Fruit” are snapshots of moments marked by big\, confusing feelings\, but they’re taken with compassion and honesty — two qualities that have defined Palehound’s music from the beginning. \n***\nOuter Spaces \n \n[Website] [Facebook] [Twitter] \nA Shedding Snake by Outer Spaces \nCara Beth Satalino\nRob Dowler\nChester Gwazda

Following that\, she released S in 2013 and Z in 2014\, both to rave reviews. In 2013\, SZA signed to Top Dawg Entertainment\, being the first female artist to join the label. SZA wrote and performed on Rihanna’s Anti single “Consideration” in 2016 and helped write Nicki Minaj and Beyonce’s “Feelin Myself” in 2014. SZA’s recently released singles\, “Love Galore” featuring Travis Scott and “Drew Barrymore\,” will appear on her highly anticipated new album Ctrl\, set for release this summer on TDE/RCA Records. Born in Maplewood\, New Jersey as Solána Rowe\, SZA grew up listening to classic and avant-garde jazz\, alternative\, and rap. She renamed herself finding inspiration within the Supreme Alphabet: the ‘S’ stands for savior or sovereign\, the ‘Z’ for zig-zag\, and the ‘A’ for Allah. \n*** \nSmino \n \nWebsite\nFacebook\nTwitter \nblkjuptr EP available 6.3 on @iTunes @AppleMusic @Spotify and errwhere else. lets go global https://smarturl.it/blkjuptr \n*** \nRavyn Lenae \n \nWebsite\nFacebook\nTwitter \nIt’s hard to believe that someone so young could be bursting with so much talent; but listen to Ravyn Lenae and you’ll quickly realize that age is truly just a number. At 17 years old\, the classically trained singer/songwriter is taking the music world by storm with her inimitable style\, which seamlessly melds elements of R&B\, Electronic\, Soul and Hip-Hop. As Pitchfork declared\, “She roars. She soars. She has the right.” \nBorn and raised on Chicago’s often turbulent south side\, Lenae is part of “Zero Fatigue\,” a local music collective that boasts artists like Smino and Jean Deaux\, as well as producer\, Monte Booker. In early 2015\, Lenae released her single\, “Greetings\,” which quickly became a household favorite in the Chicago area and beyond. Soon after\, she signed with renowned Chicago-based record label\, Three Twenty Three Music Group.\nIn August of 2015\, Lenae soft released her highly acclaimed debut EP\, Moon Shoes\, which premiered on Fake Shore Drive and My Mixtapes and has well over two million plays on SoundCloud. Hypetrak appropriately described the EP as a “combination of entrancing vocals\, control over creative cadences and superb writing\,” and noted that Lenae demonstrates an “incredible collection of skills that many singers work a lifetime on perfecting.” After the success of Moon Shoes\, Lenae was named Verizon’s Big Break Artist on WGCI in Chicago\, as well as one of BBC Radio’s New Names of 2016. To date\, Lenae has performed all over the country\, including headlining appearances at Chicago’s African Fest and at House of Blues Chicago. On 7/29\, Moon Shoes will be available at all DSPs and will feature two new songs\, “Right Of Spring” and “Something In The Air.”\nGiven her remarkable ability to blend genres\, it’s no surprise that Lenae has been influenced by a wide variety of artists\, from Stereolab and Outkast to Bob Marley and Ella Fitzgerald. “I tend to take small bits and pieces from my favorite artist\, and incorporate them into my own work\,” shares Lenae. And\, maybe that’s why some of her favorites – like Erykah Badu and NAS – are now reaching out as dedicated fans of Lenae. \nWith a lifetime ahead of her\, fans can look forward to a whole lot more from Ravyn Lenae. “I plan to touch as many people with my music as I possibly can\,” says Lenae. “And\, I can’t wait to learn more about the world and about myself. I know I still have to tap into my full potential\, and discover the true Ravyn Lenae.”

Is it a quarter-life crisis or just an excuse to never grow up? This is the world that Washed Out\, aka Ernest Greene\, conjures up on the ambitious new visual album Mister Mellow.\nFor many millennials\, life can be overblown and over-dramatized to the point of absurdity. Their ways of distracting themselves from the insecurities they face on a daily basis are just as absurd\, from social media and fantasy to drugs and music. Mister Mellow\, Washed Out’s first fully immersive multimedia experience playfully guides the listener through the highs and lows of this often ridiculous struggle\, and shines a light on the humor in this paradox — how we can be so bored and unhappy in what is often a very privileged\, contented life? This theme isn’t entirely new to Washed Out: Greene started exploring way back in 2009 on the Life of Leisure EP; but the new visual album\, which he conceived and spent two years creating\, provides a fresh\, modern perspective\, musically and thematically.\nMister Mellow moves further away from the synthesizer-heavy sounds of the recent Washed Out releases and more band-driven sound of his work on iconic labels Sub Pop in America\, and Domino in Europe. On Mister Mellow\, Greene draws from the experimental collage techniques of musique concrete and plunderphonics artists such as The Residents. Combining styles as diverse as free jazz\, house\, hip-hop and psych together with interlude-esque voiceover samples\, often pulled from anonymous YouTube vlogs\, he creates a busy\, chaotic\, and caricaturish mix that mirrors the claustrophobic\, hyper-stimulated psyche so familiar to young adults.\nAs Greene tells it\, he and his sole collaborator\, Grammy Award-winning engineer Cole MGN deliberately avoided polishing the songs: “My previous albums were very clean and traditional in the sense that most of the music was composed of live instrumental performances\, and recorded in a way that was very high-fidelity and modern. With this album\, the idea was to bring some chaos to the mix – and to try my best to make songs out of the strangest sounds and textures I could find.”\nAs he continues to carve out his innovative sonic identity\, influenced by the world around him but unafraid to buck trends\, it’s fitting that Greene has partnered with legendary hip hop label Stones Throw Records\, long a home for beat-loving musical rebels. His approach to releasing music is every bit as individual\, too: in an environment where compiling singles into an album format or working with a single video director are the norm\, Greene has chosen to commission eleven different artists to bring the visual aspect of his fully-realised album project to life.\nIntegral to the Mister Mellow project is the full-length visual counterpart that utilizes almost every form of animation (collage\, claymation\, hand-drawn\, stop-motion.) Inspired by a handmade / human feel rather than the pristine hyper-realism of purely computer generated visual art\, these rich\, detailed patchworks give the Washed Out compositional process its purest visual counterpart to date. Much as Greene meticulously stitches together sonic collages\, his visual collaborators use collage\, fabric puppetry and claymation to come up with the beautiful\, unique vignettes featured in the film. Much like the music\, Greene says\, the visuals are “imperfect and distressed”\, helping to create “a very skewed\, impressionistic view of the world.”\nOn Mister Mellow\, Washed Out steers clear of emotion to empathise with the minutiae of the world around him. “I’ve been much less interested in sentimentality and emotion for the past couple of years\,” says Greene\, “In some ways\, I think its a reaction against getting older and having more responsibilities. Maybe I’m just nostalgic for a time in my life where I could just relax and block out the world for a moment.” Though Mister Mellow is an intensely personal album\, its ideas and observations speak to the lived experience of so many young adults\, an experience that we come to see as both funny and sad.\nTake a hit and get lost June 30th.

SUMMARY:Neo Soul entertainment Presents: Ma Di North America Tour 2017
\n The folk poet\, Chinese folk idol as well\, Mr. Ma Di who is the founder of indie folk brand MAYOUYE. In the beginning of 2011\, Ma Di\, together and played with a group of friends in the same camp\, they had a free and fun attitude then put it into music as a dream. After that\, this boy who owns desultoriness and unique temperament quickly became the focus of all fans and medias quickly. Ma Di has a simple and direct expression of all things\, which is in some of his special “rough” voice\, in his franking with limited life of city\, in his writing with love\, by all of these are willing to read a sad monologue. Maybe you will criticize him who has not experienced enough to live comfortably\, without any burdensome just like a child\, however\, is it not those who care about and be moved by the “be of no importance” attitude? Perhaps\, in nowadays and the people of this city\, it is all right for Ma Di.
